‘Beyond The Edge’ PLAYGROUP FILM FUNDRAISER: Bridgeway Cinema 7.45pm

Playgroup Movie Night Fundraiser  - ‘Beyond The Edge’

In 1953, the ascent of Everest remained the last of Earth’s great challenges. Standing at over 29,000ft, the world’s highest mountain posed a fearsome challenge and had already claimed thirteen lives in previous expeditions.

Faced with treacherous winds, sub-zero temperatures and battling altitude sickness, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay finally achieved the impossible and became the first men to conquer Everest. It was an event that stunned the world and defined a nation.

Sir Edmund Hillary’s incredible achievement remains one of the greatest adventure stories of all time – the epic journey of a man from modest beginnings who overcame adversity to reach the highest point on Earth. For the first time ever, and with the support of the Hillary family, Sir Edmund’s story is brought to life on the big screen. Relive Ed’s journey using both original colour footage and photographs and dramatized recreations of the assault in stunning 3D.

And if you enjoyed our last playgroup movie night ‘White Lies’ read Dana Rotberg’s (director of White Lies)  review of Beyond The Edge below:

'It takes a sophisticated filmmaker to take us though a well known epic adventure with the grip of an efficient emotional narrative, technical intelligence and visual grace. That is precisely what L Pooley does in her recent film Beyond The Edge. The subtle usage of 3D, which could have been an excuse to overload the film with an abusive imposition of random and endless visual planes, allows the viewer to experience the amazing adventure of two unique men and a unique mountain, in a quiet and mesmerizing manner. There is not one moment in the film in which the tension and the expectation of what is taking place in the story is diminished by the fact that we all know what the story is about. Great film not to be missed!'

To continue fundraising for the flooring we need to keep our precious little ones well supported, we are holding a private screening of the movie ‘Beyond The Edge’ at the Bridgeway Cinema on Friday 1st November 2013.

Tickets are an absolute bargain at $20 each, which includes the film, a glass of wine or juice, and delicious finger food. The Bridgeway is a lovely art-house cinema in Northcote Point – literally 5 minutes over the harbour bridge with plenty of free parking. Drinks and nibbles begin at 7.45, and the film starts at 8.30pm. To find out more about the movie visit:
