CLASS 10 PLAY - Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme: Wed & Thurs 7.30pm

The Class 10 play is a central part of their curriculum, and confronts the pupils with significant artistic and personal challenges.
‘Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme’, is a nicely crafted comedy from one of the world’s great comic writers, Molière, writing in Louis XIV’s 17th century France.
The play combines an unrelenting comic script with touches of farce while examining the hypocrisy of social climbing by the bourgeoisie, and the snobbery of the aristocracy…
Monsieur Jourdain, a wealthy businessman, is the 17th Century equivalent of ‘New Money’. He is desperate to rise into the ranks of the aristocracy (and marry the Marchioness Dorimène, despite the fact the he is currently married.)
Unfortunately, his substantial economic reserves are not matched by his cultural and intellectual ones. This gap between goals and realities is constantly and comically exposed. To bring off this comedy requires timing, pace and energy.
And it relies on a true community of effort, on and off stage.
So come along, and give Class 10 the audience support they deserve and rely on as they go all out to meet these challenges, and entertain you in the process.
