SUMMARY:The Playboy of the Western World
DESCRIPTION:Class 12 students of Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School present The Playboy of the Western World by JM Synge adapted and directed by Sasha Matthewman. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Playboy of the Western World (1907) is a raging comedy written by the ‘Irish Shakespeare’\, John Millington Synge. Set in County Mayo\, Ireland\, at the turn of the twentieth century\, the play throbs with the tensions between the English overlords and the Irish peasantry and feeds on the rising tide of rebellion against brutal colonial law. \nStranger Christy Mahon walks into a rural Shebeen bar and claims to have killed his own father. The small Catholic community is soon caught up in the romance of the daring stranger – hailing his story as a brave act of defiance against an oppressor.  Girls fall at his feet and the men look to him as a true Irish hero. But as the story of the killing is retold\, events take a sudden turn that show the gap between ‘a gallous deed and a squabble in your own backyard.’ \nViolently funny\, poetic\, and strangely sinister in its references to classical myth and tragedy this is a play to stir up the soul and rouse the spirit. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \nWednesday 9 September | 7pm \nThursday 10 September | 7pm \nFriday 11 September | 7pm \nLopdell House Theatre\, Titirangi \nBook your tickets here or in the school office. \nDoors open 6:15pm \nRefreshments available before the show\, and during intermission. \nNote: Seating is not allocated. Please arrive in plenty of time – latecomers will only be admitted during a suitable break in the performance.  \nChild/Student | $15 \nAdult | $20 \nWarning: contains scenes of drinking and dramatic (not graphic) violence. Not suitable for children under 10 years and recommended viewing age 12 plus due to complex themes.

SUMMARY:Mary Willow | Breaking Through | Book Tour
DESCRIPTION:We’re delighted to welcome Mary Willow\, esteemed and sought-after parenting expert to our kura (school) this June\, many of you will recall just how wonderful her sessions have been during her past visits! \nTalks will cover the whole of childhood\, well into the teenage years. \nBreaking Through: Rescuing Childhood and the Parent–Child Relationship with Mary Willow \nMonday 8 June | 9:30–11:00am  \nTuesday 9 June | 7:00–8:30pm \nTitirangi Rudolf Steiner School Hall \nPlease note that both sessions are identical and you are welcome to attend one or both. These times will hopefully cater to a range of needs and schedules in our community. It will be a one hour talk\, followed by 30 minutes Q&A. \nThere is no need to book\, this is a free event- please feel free to share with your whānau and friends outside our school\, all welcome! \nMary is a hugely revered and sought-after parenting expert. She brings a depth of knowledge and insight to child development and child-parent relationships – beloved by parents for her warmth\, wisdom\, and ability to help parents navigate the challenges they are facing. Mary has spent 34 years working with parents and children as a nurse\, midwife\, and Waldorf teacher. Since founding Plum Parenting in 2004\, she has mentored hundreds of families across New Zealand and beyond\, including many within our own community.\n\n“There has long been a cry for a more humanistic model of parenting that allows a child to be a child. This might sound obvious and easy\, but if children are enslaved to their defence system with its myriad reactive behaviours\, they will never be free to be a child\, no matter what approach is applied. Building healthy\, respectful relationships with our children means grasping a single critical factor that is hiding in plain sight: there is not one child to parent but two! – the True Child\, and the child’s defence system – the Guard Dog. Each has a contrasting set of behaviours\, and each requires a radically different parental response. It is not the child’s flowering intellect that is at the forefront of brain development. In fact it is the child’s ancient survival brain that wants to run the show. And that character cannot be reasoned with!” \nWe warmly encourage you to come along if you can. Deepening our understanding of child development not only benefits your own family\, it strengthens our collective connection to the kaupapa of the school\, enhancing and better enabling the teachers’ work with our tamariki and rangatahi. \nMore info: www.PlumParenting.com \nMary will have copies of her book available for purchase \nWe hope to see you there! All welcome!  \n\nEmail cdc@trss.nz with any questions.

SUMMARY:Friedwart Sketches Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School is delighted to offer the Friedwart Sketches Painting Workshop\, hosted by artist and teacher Susie Gay. The Friedwart Sketches were created by Rudolf Steiner in 1923 as artistic exercises for adolescents and as a training path for adults. Working with watercolour and pastel motifs\, participants explore how form arises from the dynamic interplay of colour\, light and movement\, cultivating sensitivity\, discipline and creative expression. This workshop offers a unique opportunity for community members to engage in this meaningful artistic practice and deepen their connection with Steiner’s pedagogical arts.
